Arboretum Group 24 was originally intended to represent the forests of the Baltic region, but was never actually developed. The original oak forest still remains here, and wrongly planted younger American oaks have been recently removed. This provides a good basis, as a counterpart to the continental European forest in Group 22, to form a contrasting picture of the Western European Atlantic Beech forests and the Oak/Hornbeam forests, both climax forest types that are completely at home in Flemish Brabant. A wide range of native tree species is being planted in this mixed forest.
